That Dress

Chotiros Suriyawong in That Dress This has been a big issue in the local news recently, and is not at all a cheap excuse to use this frankly wonderful photograph.

Obscure Thai actress, Chotiros Suriyawong (pictured), wore the dress to the Subhanahongsa Awards – Thailand’s equivalent to the Oscars – in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat). She’s also a liberal arts student at Thammasat University, Bangkok. Form an orderly queue outside the campus, guys.

Of course, this being Thailand, the reaction has been predictably insane. “I don’t want my actresses to dress that way,” said Somsak Techaratanaprasert – president of the Sahamongkol film production house. “We are not a porn production house, and it goes against Thai culture.” Presumably this is the same culture that has play-for-pay girls (and ladyboys) dancing stark naked for leery punters (Thai and farang) every night, across the country.

Somsak has ordered her role in Sahamongkol’s latest movie to be edited out. University officials (the awards where the dress was worn were held 162 miles away from the university) have stopped short of suspending or dismissing our heroine, but have instead ordered her to perform 15 days of community service, reading to the blind. Of course, the blind are the one section of the local community unable to truly appreciate her presence. Amazing Thailand.

  1. Well done! At last – a post with an attractive and appropriate picture! I mean, frankly, BBB – your blog covers a subject where comely images (such as this winsome study of couture fighting a losing battle against cleavage) are not exactly hard to justify. But we have to go back to “Thanks for the Mammaries” before we see another sensitive art study (The Kind Men Like), and before that, it’s just a blur. I’m sure I speak for legions of connoisseurs of the female form when I say – more please!
(And lay off the maps. Who do you think you are? Nancy Chandler?)

  2. Blast – I knew my secret identify would one day be revealed.

In seriousness, most posts are about wandering about in bars where photography is not permitted, with girls whose privacy (if nothing else) I respect enough not to stick their photos on my website. So appropriate illustrations can be a challenge at times…

  3. Yes, but it’s not like we, the great cow-faced public, care where you source your illustrations, or if they’re directly relevant to the piece. I mean, a pretty girl is a pretty girl, right? (At least, she is for the sake of a photograph). Couldn’t you just run any picture of any girl with a tramp-stamp and a pair of fuck-me shoes? How hard can it be? Do you want me to do a Gopogle image search for you?
Your caption could read – “A pretty Thai girl, yesterday.” Every time. We’re easier to please than you think.

  4. As emails wizzed around the office and every male was drooling over these pictures I wondered do these people really not know what goes on at Soi Cowboy, scratch that, you don’t even have to go dirty, go to RCA on a Friday or Saturday and you will be inundated with scantily clad women. In fact, there is a high probability that the pencil neck geeks making the comments are members at some Ratchada massage joint. Go figure.

  5. Na-a-a-aw. Lads?
That pussy in all its groomed (in the shape of a flame) glory is, as we gossip about it, moistly, gamily (it’s hot) nestled between tender Thai student thigh- flesh.
    Waiting for some cuninglinguism.

Thai guys “will do it but they don’t really like it”
That comment was made in regards to seafood but “I was there.”
Thai women tease them OPENLY about this 😉

Is that pussy I smell or the waft of Om Sin’s Valentine’s Day lilies and roses breathing their last?

    Oo-o-o-ooh Yeah
    Both 😉

  6. On the subject of eating out (Thai pussy) – I was watching the Parade of the Freaks (the two pm exodus) at Big Dogs recently, when my random co-spectator, a bewhiskered Canuck (think Grizzly Adams, only uglier) started complaining about Thai girls flinching away from his cunning stunts with a giggle and a “tickle! It tickle!” The hirsute fool obviously hadn’t considered that having that most simple of male groomings, a shave, would not only render him acceptable for a mutually satisfying clam picnic, but less of a twat.

  7. Mmmmm, Pants, that might have been me but I’m not a Canuck. Mind you I don’t complain about it I just tell the whisker hating girls to go fuck a woman if they don’t like it. 9/10 and all that!

Anyway, BBB, I’m with Pants on this, more Totty!

  8. I read a comment once (book, magazine, internet… who remembers?) that the Thais didn’t get worked up about Nana/Patpong/Cowboy because of the prostitution. What bothered them was the lack of *modesty*. In this Bhuddist country, wearing skimpy clothes (especially on the street) and walking hand-in-hand down the street were more offensive than the idea that they would trade sex for money. Maybe this current storm-in-a-teacup illustrates some truth in that observation.

BTW, none of the surgical enhancements do anything to improve this girl in my opinion. Give me an A-cupped, dark skinned, flat nosed, Isaan girl (or several of them) any day!

  9. Werewolf: Sure, that’s one of many observations the Thais make about the scene here. We all know that they laugh at us for taking darkie slave daughters as paramours, for our loudness, for our eating habits our dress and anything else they can turn into exclusionary folklore and ritual as they talk amongst themselves at the expense of others. They do it among themselves as well.

They also know that we’ll lovingly growl down on a well tended pussy without so much as a moment’s contemplation. And they don’t, strangely enough, ridicule us for that. At least not in the company of lively, attractive women. Because they’ll get roundly laughed at for being “scared of seafood.”

Silly office “hotdog” jokes are more and more frequently being parried by “seafood” jokes from the distaff side. And it’s a riot to listen to the repartee. Especially from that foxy “new girl” who is expected to join in.
As for some “rascals” liking or not liking slurpees, it just might be a function of that intimacy thing. (Or not) One gal I heard about swore that once the punter got busy munching she’d play games on her phone to pass the time until he gave up trying “to pleasure her.” That’s NOT what she wanted from him but she couldn’t say no. But as a rule, if she’s not into IT she’s not into you for any longer than it takes to get paid.

All this reminds me of an American guy who held forth on the subject in a Hanoi bar years ago. Nice enough fellow but he knew it ALL, didn’t he. “Thai girls won’t ‘do that'” he announced with the fervency of a man who had first hand knowledge. “That would mean her head would be lower than your waist and that is against Buddhist teachings.”
this was 1993, Vietnam had just re-opened for tourism and I’d had a few soapies back in Bangers and more than a few squealing hummers from “rascals” who actually claimed to enjoy the sensation. (One said that she figured she could probably get off just giving head !)
Nobody challenged this fellow but I remember the guys at the table gazing wistfully at their Czech brewskies and dreaming of warmer climes in LOS;-)

  10. In my option the punishment met out by Somsak to have her role in Sahamongkol’s latest movie to be edited out is too severe.

She had already been punished enough from the bad press and from her University.

  11. So funny on the seafood thing. One of the girls I see told me after a proper eating out – that she could never seriously consider a Thai guy in her life again since they just don’t know how its done. I think this is a pretty good bennie for the Farang in Thailand.

For sure that photo highlights some serious air bags…

My understanding is all Thammasat first years attend mandatory plastic surgery overview classes…

  12. I may have had a deprived life in the West, but BKK is the first place where I found myself in a 69. ’twas alright.

I saw an older photo of Chotiros sans floaters. Much less impressive, I have to say. But the combo of dress and enhanced aerodynamics is certainly well pleasing to the eye. I read somewhere else that there was a show on Thai Tv where she showed how the miracle dress was actually fitted with sewn-in panties. Good, I was worried about that aspect!

  13. The hue and cry raised in Thai society regarding this dress thing shows that Thai society is not different from any other western society. When Britney opted to show her pussy majority America grieved for an innocent child gone astray. Same is the case when princess Diana or any other wellknown personality gone astray. The fact is that we do not expect bad things from persons who are suppose to be ideal or good. But the difference may be in the way how societies react to such deviations from public idols. Thai society might gone further to punish such persons but disapproval is certainly there in western societies as well. Back then when Charlie Sheen wanted to marry Porn superstar Ginger Lyn the angst of his father Martin sheen and the society was evident enough to show the similarity of Thais and Americans. Ok lets face it,,,, how many Americans choose to marry a hooker from red light areas? how many Germans or Dutch or Brits marry prostitutes from their respective nations’ red light districts? Just as westerners accept porn stars showing pussies around and hookers doing whatever they like in red light areas in the west Thais also accept hookers showing pussies or tits or whatever in nana plaza, patpong,Pattaya etc. But just as Americans cannot accept Britnies showing whatever is fobidden Thais also cannot accept the undesirable ways from the ones who ought not to do it. The problem with most westerners is that they think the girls or ladies who are working in red light areas like patpong, Nana etc are normal thai girls and the way these females behave are considered to be the ways of normal thai girls. Wake up guys!!! these are just like their sisters in red light districts back home in your countries!!!However , by any chance the feminine qualities
of Thai hookers may be even better than a normal western girl, but thats another reflection of the overall good quality of Thai culture. But do not expect to find a Chula or Thamasat graduate in Nana or whatever…..Or you can hardly find a girl born and brought up in Bangkok. The bottom line is there are always classes in a society – west or east. Thats why the west is advancing and thats why Thailand is also advancing, otherwise the whole country will be one big whorehouse. Anyway nice legs and boobs but we can always find a better endowed one either in Pattaya or Shukhumvit, thats the solace, amen.

  14. No offense John, and thanks for taking the time to write that, but I can’t agree:

Thai society might gone further to punish such persons but disapproval is certainly there in western societies as well.

Chotiros wore a skimpy dress. She didn’t flash her mimsy, or even her knockers. You’re comparing this to Britney flashing her growler (then shaving her head and checking into rehab, nice), and Charlie Sheen wanting to marry a porn star? Hardly the same.

A better comparison would be the dress Liz Hurley wore to the “Four Weddings and a Funeral” premiere:

    http://www.cinema-stars.com/ElizabethHurley/images/1.jpg

The media reaction was one of “phwooar, nice jugs”, rather than “egad, we must sentence her to community service”.

The problem with most westerners is that they think the girls or ladies who are working in red light areas like patpong, Nana etc are normal thai girls and the way these females behave are considered to be the ways of normal thai girls.

    1. I don’t know anyone who thinks that.
    2. Whilst the naughty-nightlife girls are far more blatant with it, they’re hardly the cream of Thailand’s whores. 95% of the Thai prostitutes are working in the Thai establishments for a start. Nana/Patpong/Cowboy are but a drop in the ocean. And sorry, but plenty of “regular Thai girls” can be bought almost as easily – it’s just a little (but not that much) more subtle.

But do not expect to find a Chula or Thamasat graduate in Nana or whatever…

So the affections of graduates can’t be bought? Please…

Thats why the west is advancing and thats why Thailand is also advancing, otherwise the whole country will be one big whorehouse.

I’d argue that the country is essentially already one big whorehouse from a certain point of view – obviously there are exceptions, but not as many as you’re implying. The nature of the transaction may change – it’s certainly more obvious in Nana, but that doesn’t mean it’s not the norm. Certainly for Thai-Farang/Thai-Jap/Thai-whatever relationships anyway…

  15. The reason I like about your reactions is such articulations might be helpful in enlightening some new comers. Ok right ,when I say red light areas like Nana it includes all the establishments like soapies etc. I think it will be informative if you do a survey of all Commercial sex workers in Bangkok in particular. If you collect the total numbers of prostitutes and then compare it to the population of Bangkok you will get a per capita rate of prostitution. Campare this with the per capita prostitution of Amsterdam,Las Vegas, Bombay or Soho etc, you will find that Bangkok has not that much number. And one starking truth will emerge—– only a few Bangkok girl ( born and brought up) will be found working in these establishments and virtually none Chula or Thamassat Graduates. Yeah, Japs like those Chiangmai whities and Farangs like Issan darkies but how many of Japs or Farangs marry normal day time office going Thai girls ? 99% of Jap or farang thai wifes are ex- employees of soapies or Nana ( and other red light areas) regulars. There are farangs or Japs who bought the hearts of Chula or Thamassat graduates and eventually marry them but these are only a few. It will throw some light on us if you do some research on this subject. I am sure you will find that these guys met their wifes while they workin in offices or activities other than anything associated with red light areas. And if you compare Bangkok of 20 years back and Bangkok of today it is certainly moving away from its image of a big whorehouse, perfect example is Patpong.

  16. I think it will be informative if you do a survey of all Commercial sex workers in Bangkok in particular. If you collect the total numbers of prostitutes and then compare it to the population of Bangkok you will get a per capita rate of prostitution.

Sure. My point is, add to that figure the number of girls who aren’t “commercial sex workers”, but are still happy to have sexual relations with farangs as part of a financial relationship, then you have a total which is not far off the female population of Bangkok. “Taxi money”, anyone?

And one starking truth will emerge… only a few Bangkok girl ( born and brought up) will be found working in these establishments and virtually none Chula or Thamassat Graduates

The majority are Issan, sure. But some are indeed from Bangkok, others from the far north or south, and still others from all manner of exotic places.

I don’t quite understand why you keep repeating that Chula and Thamassat girls don’t work as bargirls. In England, there aren’t many Oxford or Cambridge graduates standing on street corners touting for business either. A “better education” generally makes for better career prospects – this has little to do with Thailand.

The difference in Thailand is that many of the uni girls have profiles on the various internet dating sites, and are happy to meet farangs for dinner, drinks and sex (paid for, of course).

99% of Jap or farang thai wifes are ex- employees of soapies or Nana ( and other red light areas) regulars

I would love to see some proof of that – whilst it’s certainly higher than many places in the world, and I do take that point, I don’t think it’s anywhere near 99%.

And if you compare Bangkok of 20 years back and Bangkok of today it is certainly moving away from its image of a big whorehouse, perfect example is Patpong.

Take the number of commercial sex establishments (gogos, massage parlours, etc) that have closed in Patpong over the past 20 years.

Now take the number that have opened elsewhere over the same amount of time. I wasn’t here 20 years ago, but I do know that Nana Plaza was mostly restaurants when it opened in 1982. Now it houses 29 gogo bars (1 of which is currently closed) and a number of beer bars.

And I’m not even mentioning Pattaya, where hundreds (thousands?) of gogo bars and beer bars have opened up in the past 20 years.

Has there been a positive or negative change?

Yes, there have been efforts (to varying degrees of success) to relocate the Thai sex tourism industry to Pattaya. But there’s still a huge amount of official and unofficial “sex workers” in Bangkok, and now we have an even larger number down the road.

  17. I am sorry if I keep on repeating some points. When I first came here about two decades back I had the same impression that all Thai girls could be bought at the right price and I was also laughing when I see Thais stood up everytime they see their king before every movie show. But it took me 20 of my working years here in Thailand, five of them without seeing sunlight,to come to the point of appreciating Thai culture and to prove my views wrong. Everybody has a story to tell and I would like to share some of my untold stories. When I came here for the time I was bowled over by sex indusrty of this country, in fact at one point I was even a shareholder at one of the establishments in the red light area of Shukhumvit. I spent five years there without even seeing the sun once. I had the priviledge of seeing these so called unfortunate working girls at close range.I came to understand almost every aspect of their life. And when I was fed up with red area scene I graduated to being associated with escorts or so called high class call girls whom you can chat on the internet. After a few heartbreaking breaking experience with some of these girls a new altogether image of Thailand slowly dawned in my darkened vision. what I want share is that these so called escort or marriage agencies use different techniques to market their girls. For instance an agency uses four or five names and market them differently. And when you chat with Thai girls on the internet thinking they are actually university students or office going women, the fact is a different story.
Many girls use different names and most them say they are from Bangkok. Most of the girls who are hanging around nightlife areas chat on the internet on spare time. The good thing about thai culture is that the public do not look down upon these women and they can freely mix with the society which make for an outsider difficult to differentiate a normal girl from a hooker. You will find hookers living in apartments where normal girls and families live. They dress the same and some of high earning sex workers even have expensive cars. In order to understand what I am saying is true, you need to actually live with them and be able to talk in Thai proficiently. Back then I used to point at every girl I saw on the road and ask the girls how much I needed to spend to screw her. It was sex workers themselves who taught me there is a line between a normal girl and a hooker and the majority cannot be bought by money. So every time you chat with thai girl pretending to be a normal girl you need to see her, shag her, see her family and if required see the univ. certificate only then you will see the real picture. The life of typical normal office going girl starts at around 5 a.m. in the morning when they wake up and ready for office, after having breakfast and some household chores they are at the bustop at around 7.30 as they have to reach office at 8.30 considering the Bangkok traffic. Then at around 5.20 they are at the bustand again waiting for the bus back home and when they reach home it is around 6.30 or seven. After preparing dinner etc. they need to sleep early to wake up early next morning. On the other hand the life of a typical commercial worker starts late in the evening and ends early in the morning so it will be physically impossible for girl living a double life. In fact a normal office working clerk gets only about 10000 bahts and a normal hooker may get around 30000 at the least. But these girls will never sacrifice something they have the hookers dont have for any amount, this quite surprisingly, you will find in Thailand.
I think you know the Thai concept ” losing face”. I know you will not believe or like what I am saying.Bangkok has a population of over 10 millions and half of these are women. If you look carefully the total number Commercial sex workrs in eveyform is just below hundred thousand which is negligible. The reason I am writing this is that it took me a long time to understand , appreciate and love this country and I want to pay back some thing. I can finally understand why in its long history ,Thailand is the only nation in Asia which was never colonised by any western power, why there is social harmony in the midst of contrasting western and eastern values.why I like about your site is that yours is the most active one concerning the nightlife and I want you to dig deeper and deeper and you may one day see the picture that I am seeing even though you do not believe me.

  18. John: shorter paragraphs would really help me get through these posts!

Thanks for coming back though – I will always respect readers who disagree with me, but still manage to state their case without the name-calling and bickering.

And when you chat with Thai girls on the internet thinking they are actually university students or office going women, the fact is a different story.

To clarify, I was talking about the local dating sites – eg. thailandfriends.com. You seem to be talking about the online escort services, which are a complete rip-off, and do indeed misrepresent their members. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge-pole.

Back then I used to point at every girl I saw on the road and ask the girls how much I needed to spend to screw her. It was sex workers themselves who taught me there is a line between a normal girl and a hooker and the majority cannot be bought by money.

The difference is one of subtlety. Sure, you can’t wander up to a uni girl at a skytrain station and ask “how much?”. But you can make eye contact, smile, say hello, tell her you want to find Thai friends to practise your Thai language, get her number (they’re astonishingly liberal with their phone numbers, aren’t they?) and end up taking her out for dinner, drinks, clubbing and sex. In return, she’ll expect everything to be paid for, and may well expect a donation for “taxi fare” in the morning. It’s all about where you want to draw the line at what is commercial sex and what isn’t.

I think you know the Thai concept “losing face”. I know you will not believe or like what I am saying.Bangkok has a population of over 10 millions and half of these are women. If you look carefully the total number Commercial sex workrs in eveyform is just below hundred thousand which is negligible.

I think we just have a different idea of what constitutes “commercial sex”. I don’t agree with your assessments, because I think you’re seeing things in black and white rather than the true shades of grey.

The official population of Bangkok is 10 million but in reality it’s probably at least 15 million. Changing one’s official address is apparently a bureaucratic nightmare, so most of the folks who’ve moved here still officially “live” back in eg. Buriram. And the female population is greater than 50% – the Issan boys have to stay at home to work the farm. It’s the girls who are sent to Bangkok to make a little extra cash for Daddy’s new motorbike, TV, pick-up, etc etc.

I can finally understand why in its long history ,Thailand is the only nation in Asia which was never colonised by any western power, why there is social harmony in the midst of contrasting western and eastern values.

Never colonised by the west – just slowly and (not so) subtlely annexed by the Chinese!

Why I like about your site is that yours is the most active one concerning the nightlife and I want you to dig deeper and deeper and you may one day see the picture that I am seeing even though you do not believe me.

At the end of the day, we clearly have very different viewpoints and opinions. This story from the BBC, for example, illustrates the “heart-wrenching” tale of the poor Thai bargirl perfectly – but for every Pim there are a large number of Noks, Nuds, Nids and Nams who seem to rather enjoy getting paid to drink, dance and shag.

Since this is what a lot of girls generally do on their days off anyway, I think that, whilst obviously there are deep-seated social problems here, the commercial sex scene isn’t always the abhorrent evil that the western media so enjoys painting it as.

You and I simply seem to differ on what constitutes commercial sex. Barfine = dinner at Vertigo. Short-time fee = handbag from Paragorn that she absolutely must have (“you jai dee!”) – plus that taxi money again…

It’s all about perceptions. I wouldn’t dream of trying to change yours, but I hope you can understand mine.

  19. I will try to make it short.
Sure there are grey areas– I even met students at siam square offering sex for a price and you will always get an answer if you start talking to any thai girl but that talk leads to actually scoring on her at some later period depends on how damn smart you are and how good looking or what are you. I am yet to see a single farang guy who actually pick up a normal thai girl from Siam Square.
There are still underage girls selling quick sex at 300 baht escorted by their boyfriends and sometimes even by their mothers at Sanam luang and Lumpini Park, what the police does is another matter. There is a different class of youths who are on drugs and whose families are on the fringes of the society.
There are many Bangkok born broughtup young girls selling sex in many sois of Bangkok whose customers are mostly Thais. In fact it seems you can get quick sex anywhere.
But the point is these are not mainstream thais and I want you to talk to some Farangs or any outsider who work among Thai girls and guys in daytime regular office I think you will get the real picture of Normal relationships.Thais being Family based society the question of Losing Face becomes the most important factor. So the normal Thaigirls will try at their best ,so that their associations with any outsider will make them hookers in the eyes of their friends, relatives, brothers, sisters, parents or even neighbours.

The dating sites like the ones you mention are just another face of commercial sex, believe me, You will even find girls using the photograps of thai movei stars and famous models as their photos. Forget about the ones you are talking about which are meant for Farang customers these smart operators penetrate even Thai language Dating sites meant for Thai teenagers like Yenta4.com. I will give you one example—among the photos of innocent looking high school girls you will find some girls ,cleverly marketed by one lady called Venus chana, who are actually hookers desguise as students.

Thais came from china in the 12th century A.D. and so they have a close affinity with the chinese, in fact in the later period many chinese migrants were absorbed in the Thai army, one them even helped drove the Burmese Invaders and became king of Thailand. Back in the 50s and 60s it was the chinese, Indians and some westerners who controlled Thai trade and commerce. And now it is Chinese, Indians and farangs becoming more Thais than the other way around. My point was the appreciation of Thai diplomacy.

Its been a tradition of Well to do thais to have many minor wives or mia nois who came from impoverised sections of Bangkok or provinces. In some ways its a form of resource destribution among the poor. Whether we like this system or not is another matter. This and the existence of commercial sex scene from the early days also helped in making Thailnd a sex destination. But that does not mean that the majority Thais are doing it.

  20. Some good points – and some I’m less inclined to agree with.

But I’ll let this stand – I think we can agree to disagree on some points, and can both take something away from each other’s perspectives on it all.

Incidentally, I wonder how many of my readers will be queuing up outside Sanam Luang and Lumpini Park after the information you provided in your second paragraph…

  21. I’ve spent a lot of time working in an environment here in Bangkok where most of the people I work with are the university educated ‘good girls’ that John talks about.

Most of them would be astonished to know of BB’s opinions.

I think that the line that divides is where you meet these girls. Whether it’s Washington DC, the Gold Coast of Queensland, or right here in Bangkok, if you pick up girls at night clubs and bars, there’s a good chance that you can ‘do the dirty’ with them. More often than not, you’ll need to buy them dinner/drinks/gifts. These are the ‘good girls’ BB seems to know.

There’s a massive number of Thai girls who work at office jobs for 10 or 20 thousand baht a month who live very sedate lives, watching TV, reading cartoon books and shopping at JJ market who rarely make it to a club or disco. They may or may not have a Thai boyfriend, and are generally intimidated by Ferang, and are often antagonistic towards the big white skinned boys. These are John’s good girls.

Thai girls in night clubs = BBs hookers

Accounts Receivable Assistants in small Thai office = John’s good girls

Personally, I think the truth about the vast majority of Thai girls lies closer to John’s world view. Sex in Thailand certainly has it’s unique attributes… but then so does Amsterdam, Sydney, Las Vegas and the Phillipines.

I think what makes Bangkok stand out:
    1. Most importantly is the currency exchange rate that makes Thailand cheap as chips for foriegners
    2. The congregation of Ferang areas (ie patpong/cowboy/nana)
    3. The fact that, as a customer, you can spend fairly ‘normal’ time with the hookers chatting, drinking and eating rather than simply choosing from a lineup or taking the next girl available
    4. The fact that the Thai sex workers, on average, are younger and more attractive than the hookers available in other cities (and probably less drug-dependant… though opinions may vary)
    5. The fact that — especially in go go bars — you can see exactly what your buying.
    6. The ‘open acceptance’ of Thai/Bhuddist culture that means that a 19 year old glamour girl will treat you equally well if you are a 19-yr-old blond surfer, a guy with no arms, or a 55-yr-old fat bald guy. In fact, the great un-equalizer is the amount of money you are willing to send her direction.
    7. The ‘exotic’ destination. Mysterious Asia… hot days & warm nights, temples, spicy food. Shit, it’s all part of the experience that makes Bangkok/Pattaya one of the top two or three contenders for the title of “Brothel to the World”.

    A brief story.

One Thai friend of mine is a fairly attractive Thai girl. Tall, long hair, and about 26 years old. She lives on Soi 6. One early morning she left her house to go to work, and a taxi pulled beside her, a Ferang got out and asked how much he would have to pay her to join him and the girl he had in the car.

When I saw her she was in tears! She just couldn’t understand it. She knew where Nana was, and had some idea of what goes on there, but she kept asking, ‘why did he think I would go with him?’

    Another quick story.

I know a beautiful 25-year-old girl who is an office worker. We have been friends for a couple of years. She told me that just 4 years ago she wouldn’t have spoken to me, because she basically hated Ferang. I asked why. Her reason was that she saw Ferang men walking down the street holding hands with Thai women, and she just doesn’t think that’s proper behaviour.

These girls are attractive, college educated women who — in my opinion — typify the attitudes and beliefs of mainstream Thai girls.

Who do I live with? A beautiful 24-year-old ex-gogo dancer who started when she was about 16.

Why does she stay with me? Because I give her spending money every month… much less than she made dancing/hooking but with zero stress in her life. Because I’m basically a ‘kind’ guy who treats her better than she would probably get from most others. And because I love seafood.

Why do I bother to mention it? I don’t want anyone to think that I’m a neophyte who only sees innocence in office girls and doesn’t understand the ‘real’ Thai girls… the ones from Isaan who come to BKK to take care of the family or find a ferang husband or just because they’re bored in their village. Yep, I know them too.

The girl who lives with me; what’s her favorite thing to do on her day off? Go to the bar where she used to dance to drink and talk with her old friends!

Thailand — the same, but different.

  22. Perhaps I’ve been astonishingly fortunate in my dealings with the “good girls”. Until I get round to trying it on with each and every one of the several million cute women of Bangkok, I guess I won’t have statistical proof either way.

    It’s a hard life.

  23. Just some hushed golf applause from my corner for werewolf’s long and interesting post, together with the nice postscript.
For my two cent’s worth – my favourite BKK girl works in a bar, takes customers she likes (refusing more than accepting), and retains all the fundamental goodness and civilised manners that, for me, qualify her as a good girl (rather than a “good” girl, fnarrrr fnarrrr). She doesn’t hold hands in the street, for the reasons you mention, and I like that. She doesn’t dress “sexy” (she dresses sexy – jeans and t-shirt) and she doesn’t kiss on the mouth. I genuinely respect her – hell, I respect any girl who’ll fuck me (for money, love, or none of the above) but this one has real class, and is a total treat to take to restaurants, shopping, swimming …
(BBB, please give her my love next time you’re, uh, talking to her … I miss that girl)
My point? Good girl/bar girl … samesame … can can!

  24. Confusing? Perfectly logical extension of an argument, developed from themes established in your piece. It’d be pretty boring if we were still talking about couture, dewd …

  25. One missing point guys—- look at the picture carefully she is not wearing any panties just like britney spears. I saw a picture shot from a different angle to prove this point in a Thai language magazine but the only difference with britney is that she was shot by an expert american paparazzi and the Thai photographer shot from a distance.

  26. Good to see Mango Sauce waking up and covering this story. Be interesting comparing threadworthiness, n’est-ce pas?

  27. She’s a pretty girl.
But somebody went a bit “over” with the nose and the chin implant.
The katoeys slap on a big chin implant as well.
Gotta be careful with that sizing.

Did it come along with the tits in a matched box set ?

(Which are fine, by me, incidentally as long as she has some butt to balance it and isn’t cursed with “bird” legs.

  28. f**king ugly tits. She should be thrown out of the uni and in to a jail for destroying a possibly sexy human body with two kilos of silicone.
And the boobjob bomber should lose hisher licence.
